Tired of religion? Burnt out on hypocrisy?
Maybe you hold a quiet faith but cringe at the thought of being lumped in with “those” Christians.
You’re not alone.
I confess—there are times I’ve felt that way too. I’ve winced at the label Christian because of what religiosity has done to that name. In this charged political climate, I’ve watched people who claim to follow Jesus—good “church folk”—take up platforms in the name of freedom, yet turn away from families torn apart, children separated from parents, justice overlooked.
I was told the sanctity of life mattered.
But somewhere along the way, the sanctity of living seemed forgotten.
The politics of religion can wear a soul thin. But please—don’t stay stuck there.
Let me tell you about someone who understood this tension. His name was Nicodemus—let’s just call him Nick. He moved in powerful circles, part of a crew known for rules, status, and appearances. They held influence, but their world was small and exclusive.
And yet, something stirred in him.
Restless one night, he slipped out under the cover of darkness to meet a man on the other side of the political and religious lines. He didn’t go to argue or debate. He went to listen. To ask questions. To understand.
Maybe you feel that stirring too. Maybe your friends sway you, or the endless news cycles leave you dizzy and disoriented. Having worked in communications, I can tell you—every headline has a slant. To find truth, you often have to gather pieces from many sides and gently stitch them together.
I think Nick understood that. He stepped outside his echo chamber, let go of the puppets and posturing, and simply listened.
You can read the conversation for yourself in John chapter 3. The Bible doesn’t tell us what decision he made that night—only that he went searching.
Will the religious machine stir again? Probably. History shows us the “religious right” is not going anywhere.
But history also shows us this: Jesus isn’t going anywhere either.
And that’s the hope.
Following Him has nothing to do with empty religion. It has everything to do with life—real life, healing life, grace-filled life.
If you’re restless for something deeper, you’re not alone.
Maybe today is your night to slip quietly toward Jesus, to ask your questions, to listen for yourself. If you need someone to talk to, we have a great Biblical Counseling and Spiritual Care center that’s about to open. It’s called the Rooted Soul in St. Joseph, Michigan.
Jesus is waiting. And His love is nothing like what hurt you.
